About

Football, Explained is a plain-English guide for people new to pro football: the rules, the positions, the season and the draft.

How answers are sourced

Every answer links the page it comes from. The league's own rulebook and football operations pages come first; trade press fills gaps and is labeled. Rules are as of the 2026 season. Where sources disagreed, the answer says less rather than guess.

Games and records

The schedule, scores and standings are a snapshot from a Sportradar feed, dated on each page. They are not live.
